At Move Physical Therapy, we offer a local recovery solution through the use of Cryotherapy. MOVE uses whole-body and targeted Cryo to help reduce pain, improve soft tissue healing, increase endurance, and improve range of motion.
Cryotherapy is the use of extreme temperatures to heal the body. This process assists in reducing the swelling of injuries, this reduction in swelling automatically helps the body to recover quickly, reduces pain, and reduces swelling.
Whole-body cryotherapy (WBC) is a safe, pain management treatment that cools the exterior layer of skin with sub-zero blasts of air for several minutes. Cryotherapy works to reduce inflammation in much the same way as the application of an ice pack, but applied to the entire body using a cryo sauna. Aches and pains are often caused by the inflammation of expanding blood vessels surrounding an injury. These symptoms can be effectively addressed by cooling the body and shrinking the blood vessels. This recovery process can influence your pain in a second way because as the nerves become cooler they will send less pain signals to your brain.

Cryotherapy can be used to treat chronic muscle and nerve pain.
Reduces and manages Migraine Symptoms:
Cryotherapy has been shown to help reduce migraine pain. This is done by using localized treatment on the back of the neck. By numbing the nerves there, migraine pain can be significantly reduced. Jackie Dunn the Co-Founder of Move has used cryotherapy to help manage her chronic migraines “After my first whole-body cryotherapy session I was able to feel relief from my chronic migraines.”
Reduces arthritic pain:
Studies have found that whole-body cryotherapy significantly reduced pain in people with arthritis. They found that the treatment was well-tolerated. It also allowed for more aggressive physiotherapy and occupational therapy as a result. This ultimately made rehabilitation programs more effective.
Numbs Nerve Irritation:
Many athletes have been using cryotherapy to treat injuries for years, and one of the reasons why is that it can numb pain. The cold can actually numb an irritated nerve. Cryotherapy will treat the affected area with a small probe inserted into the nearby tissue. This can help treat pinched nerves or neuromas, chronic pain, or even acute injuries.
Whole Body Cryotherapy has been shown to increase the basal metabolic rate. A single session of Whole Body Cryotherapy has been shown to cause the body to burn an additional calories. Cryotherapy will not help you lose weight by itself but it when combined with a diet plan and exercise whole-body cryotherapy is a great tool to help you reach your goals.
Reduces Anxiety and Depression:
The ultra-cold temperatures in whole-body cryotherapy can cause physiological hormonal responses. This includes the release of adrenaline, noradrenaline, and endorphins. This can have a positive effect on those experiencing mood disorders like anxiety and depression. One study suggests that whole-body cryotherapy is actually effective in short-term treatment for both.
